Nakaya Dorsal Fin ver. 2 Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen
The Nakaya Dorsal Fin ver.2 fountain pen in Kuro-tamenuri, is made of ebonite and finished with a beautiful Wajami urishi lacquer. By letting the urushi accumulate at both ends, the image of a sword is created.
Several transparent urushi layers are applied over the base color, which are dried each time and then polished. The more coats applied, the darker the final pen color will be. With this pen this results in a beautiful dark lacquered pen, in which the underlying, in this case, green layers become visible in the sharper transitions. The name refers to this; "Tame" means "pond" which refers to the transparency of the top coat and "nuri" means "layer" and refers to the painting process.
The design of the pen is simple and sober, no double rings and no clip. The fountain pen is slightly longer than usual and intended to be used without a cap on the back. (It is not recommended to place the cap on the back of the holder because of damage to the beautiful urushi lacquer).
The nibs are 14 carat gold and can be ordered in different writing widths .
Japanese fountain pens almost always write seriously thinner than the European brands. As an indication, a Japanese medium nib corresponds to a fine European nib.
Each pen is packed in a Paulownia wooden gift box, the pen itself comes in a small "kimono" pouch. The fountain pen comes with a box of (Platinum) ink cartridges and a converter.
Nakaya fountain pens are made to order, delivery time varies from three to about six months, but the pens are well worth the wait.
We have a small "iron stock" that we will try to maintain. In addition, it is of course possible to order the pen with your specific preference regarding the holder, color urushi and nib from us.
