Pierre-Auguste Renoir stands as one of the most prominent forerunners of modernism, whose sun-drenched paintings set the tone for an entire movement: Impressionism. With reverence for the groundbreaking achievements of this distinguished and captivating French Impressionist, Montblanc has created the Masters of Art Homage to Pierre-Auguste Renoir Limited Edition 4810.
As if guided by Renoir’s own hand, the edition is crafted from olive wood and painted in a way that evokes the look and feel of an artist’s direct touch. Renoir himself would likely have chosen no other material, being especially fond of the ancient olive trees in his garden in the South of France—trees he immortalized in many of his works. Renoir captured fleeting moods and moments, rendering them on canvas with vivid colors and brisk, expressive brushstrokes.
A striking feature of this edition is the gold-plated clip shaped like two paintbrushes—the same kind Renoir used to bring both fine details and broad, luminous surfaces to life. The top of the cap is adorned with ultramarine precious resin encircling the Montblanc emblem.
The ring at the cap’s crown is engraved with the year 1874—the moment when this new generation of artists, the Impressionists, held their first exhibition. That year marks the birth of Impressionism as a distinct and independent art movement.
As a tribute to Renoir’s extraordinary drawing skills, a silverpoint tip crafted from soft Ag 925 sterling silver is integrated into the gold-plated cone, inviting the user to create their own silverpoint sketches.
