The Montblanc John F. Kennedy Special Edition fountain pen is part of the "Great Characters" series. Previously published in this series; Leonardo Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi and Alfred Hitchcock. It is the first time that a cheaper variant appears in this series in addition to the numbered limited edition.

This special edition features numerous features that directly reference Kennedy's life and work. The basic material of the pen is dark blue precious resin, a color that refers to his career in the US Navy. All fittings in the collection are platinum plated. The clip is engraved with his initials; JFK. The three rings on the wide brim represent his three brothers; Joseph, Robert and Edward. The pattern of these cap rings is also inspired by the footprints of the first steps on the moon, while his vision to send a man to the moon is also immortalized by the engraving of the lunar lander on the 14 carat gold nib. The double rings on the holder refer to his rank as Lieutenant during World War II, where he commanded a motor torpedo boat.
