One of the most important pens in the history of Caran d'Ache is the Ecridor model. The name 'Ecridor' comes from the pencil factory (founded in 1915) that Arnold Schweitzer, the founder of Caran d'Ache, bought in 1924, located in the heart of Geneva. In 1929, Carl Schmid invented one of the first mechanical pencils, the 'Fixpencil', a name registered as a trademark by Caran d'Ache. A few years later, the first hexagonal Ecridor mechanical pencils made their debut. In 1953 the logical follow-up was a matching ballpoint pen.
